High on nature: a journey of redemption across Hardangervidda

In the spring of 2020, amidst the global pandemic and widespread isolation, adventurer Even Sverdrup and his companion Thomas Lone embarked on a unique expedition across Norway’s Hardangervidda plateau. But this was no ordinary trek; they were joined by three individuals Are, Atle, and Lars each with a history of substance abuse and criminal activity, seeking a fresh start.

With minimal skiing experience and borrowed equipment, the trio faced the daunting challenge of traversing the plateau. The journey tested their physical and mental limits, especially when confronted with severe weather conditions. At one point, overwhelmed by the storm and self-doubt, one participant considered abandoning the expedition. However, through encouragement and a renewed sense of purpose, he pressed on, discovering resilience he didn’t know he possessed.

This expedition was more than a physical endeavor; it was a testament to the healing power of nature and the human spirit’s capacity for change. The experience not only fostered personal growth but also inspired the foundation of “Medvandrerne,” a community initiative promoting outdoor activities as a means of rehabilitation and mental well-being.
