About soy

Soy is a plant-based ingredient made from the soybean, a legume that has been cultivated for thousands of years. It is commonly used in both our food and animal feed due to its high protein content and functional properties. In food production, soy can be used in various forms, such as flour, protein concentrate, or textured soy, depending on the application.

What soy is used for

Soy is cultivated in many parts of the world and used in a wide range of applications. In food production, it appears in various forms such as soy protein, flour, or textured pieces, depending on the type of meal. Its versatility and stability make it well suited for ready-made and long-lasting food products.

In our case, soy is one of several plant-based ingredients used to provide a stable source of protein and texture in some of our meals. It is used because it functions well in food that needs to be lightweight, durable, and nutritionally balanced.

The proof is in the tomato soup

An example of how we use soy is in the REAL Turmat Tomato Soup. This meal contains soy protein to increase its energy content without adding weight, making it well suited for outdoor activities where both nutrition and packability matter. We also chose soy protein to keep the meal vegan, ensuring it meets the needs of those who prefer plant-based options.

Where our soy comes from

There is often public discussion linking soy to deforestation in the Amazon. This connection mostly relates to large-scale soy farming operations in South America, especially in Brazil, where land is cleared to grow soy for export.

The soy used in our products does not come from South America. It is grown in Serbia, a European country with established agricultural practices. By sourcing from Serbia, we ensure traceability and proximity to our production facilities, which supports logistical efficiency.
